The Nile Cruise Blues or Pharoah’s Revenge

Pharaoh's RevengeEvery now and then you’ll read about someone suffering whilst on a Nile Cruise from “Pharoahs’ Revenge“.  In other words a gyppy tummy.

In those cases it is usually assumed that its’ been caused by the food on the cruise.  However, in many occasions this has not proven to be the case and it turns out that it can often be put down to germs picked up from things like the Egyptian currency, which can be pretty well-used, or other surfaces touched whilst off the ship.

Of course, people can then touch their lips without thinking and then that’s when Pharoahs’ Revenge can kick in.

In our FREE Nile Cruise Guide we have a whole section on Tips and Hints and one of the things that we suggest is that you take with you a pack of “moists”.  The ones that you can pick up from Boots The Chemist or your local pharmacy.  Whenever you handle the currency we suggest you wipe your hands thoroughly with a moist and this will go along way to keep you germ free.

If you do come down with Pharoah’s Revenge we also recommend asking at the ship’s reception to see if they have the local remedy which often works much faster than those remedies we take with us from the UK.

  1. Hi we were unlucky enough to catch Pharoah,s curse, it was very nasty and ruined our 14day cruise and stay. We took every precaution possible (i.e) tablets hand sprays hand wipes , we were detirmined not to go down with P R ,but 5days into our outstanding cruise i went down , on the 6th day my wife contacted PR. That was our holiday ruined I cannot say what or how we cotacted PR but it will not stop us from going to the Nile again ,we want to see what we missed. T Myatt .
